Why use Down Streams Capture?
Down Streams Database Capture is a useful
feature because the Capture process is shifted from the primary
database. There is no utilization of additional resources in
terms of process activity and memory resources on the source
database. This way there is no overhead on the source database.
Entire capture and enqueue activities are executed on the
downstream database.
If multiple source databases are
participating in the replication process, Capture processes for
all of these multiple database sources can be centralized on a
single database, the downstream database, for administrative
convenience.
Since copying the redo log files to the
downstream databases is an essential step, it provides improved
protection against data loss. For example, the redo log files at
the downstream database may be used for recovery of the source
database in some situations.
The ability to configure multiple Capture
processes at the downstream database provides more flexibility
and improves scalability. Additional memory resources can be
assigned without affecting the SGA of the source database.
