Business Time – Case 2
Another IT professional was also a poor performer.
His coworkers just thought he was slow, but the manager would walk
past his office and overhear phone calls regarding volleyball. Several
times the manager walked into his office partition and he would
quickly close the windows on his computer screen; however, he could
not close them fast enough in all instances. One time he was caught
red-handed maintaining a website for a girls’ volleyball league.
It turns out he was managing the league and was
the administrator for the league website. Few long-term managers are
surprised anymore after witnessing similar acts during work-hours and
with the abuse of company resources. This person was also eventually
terminated for poor performance.
