Conducting
the Webmaster Job Interview
Chapter 10: The
Technical
Interview
Non-Technical
Questions
When conducting an
on-site or telephone interview, it's very important that you be able
to assess non-technical information about your job candidate. These
non-technical factors include motivation, thinking skills, and
personal attitude. All of these factors have a direct bearing on
the ultimate success of the candidate in your shop. They also give
you an idea about the potential longevity of a particular candidate.
Each of these
questions is deliberately ambiguous and probing so that the job
candidate will have an opportunity to speak freely. Often these
questions will give you a very good idea of the suitability of the
candidate for the position. Remember, in many IT shops technical
ability is secondary to the ability of the candidate to function as
a team member within the organization.
